The first two days are identical to a three-day trip. Out of Marrakech over Tizi
n’Tichka, Ait Ben Haddou, then a hotel night in the Dades valley. Day two runs
Todra and Erfoud and puts you on a camel at the edge of the erg in the late
afternoon.
Day three is the difference. You wake up in the sand and stay in it. Day four is the
drive back, spread across a full day. It stops properly at Rissani, Agdz and Ouarzazate
rather than running in one push.
Why choose four days
You see the desert in daylight
On a three-day trip you arrive at dusk and leave before dawn. The erg becomes
something you experience at either end of a night. The extra day is the only chance on
any itinerary here to be out in it with the sun up.
Khamlia and the nomads are only on these two
No three-day departure reaches the Gnawa village or the nomad encampments, because
there is no time in the schedule for them. Both four-day trips do.
The return stops being the hard day
The single most common criticism of a three-day trip is day three. It is 560
kilometres after a night in a tent and a pre-dawn camel ride. Splitting it removes the

What you get, and what you do not
Both fares cover the vehicle and driver-guide, the fuel and the hotel nights on the
road. Both also cover two nights in the desert camp, the camel trek, and three dinners
and three breakfasts. One states sandboarding at the camp as well.
Neither covers drinks or tips. One publishes an inclusion list naming lunch and an
exclusion list naming lunches, which contradicts itself. Plan to pay for your own midday
meals on both, and treat anything else as a bonus.

- Anyone already in the south. A Merzouga-based overnight gives you
the same camp and the same sunrise for a fraction of the fare. Two nights back to back

- Anyone travelling on to Fes. Neither of these is a crossing; both
return to Marrakech. The Fes departures handle the
one-way trip.
